Hand grade poly strapping, is a user-friendly packaging solution that is applied using manual poly strapping tools such as feeders, tensioners and sealers. It is ideal for hand strapping and palletizing in smaller to medium volumes.  Hand grade poly strapping is able to stretch for a snug fit during packaging and has low tension retention.  Manual tensioners and crimping systems are available for low volume applications. Automatic hand tools are used for higher volume applications.  Both manual and automatic tools are available as combination tools, which perform the tensioning, sealing and cutting, or as separate tensioners, sealers, and cutters.

Hand grade poly strapping can be manually applied using wire buckles and tightened using manual strapping tools. The ends of the poly strapping can be fused together using a handheld friction weld, a heat sealing strapping tool or a plastic strapping seal.

Different strapping needs require different tools – at Redback Industries, we want to make sure you have the right strapping product for the job, along with proper strapping tools.

Machine grade poly strapping, or machine grade polypropylene strapping, is specially designed to be applied using a strapping machine or a tabletop banding machine. You can use both semi-automatic and automatic strapping machines with this type of strapping. The machine grade poly strapping’s high elongation and recovery, as well as its low tension retention, make it an excellent choice for secure and speedy machine strapping and palletizing.

Strapping machines, also known as bundlers, are used for high volume applications or special applications. They are available in horizontal and vertical orientations; bottom seal, side seal, and top seal orientations; semi-automatic and automatic varieties. The automatic versions are designed to be used inline with conveyor systems.

Woven Polyester Cord and Composite Cord Strapping are a safer, more affordable, and easier to carry alternative to steel strapping. Polyester strapping maintains tension over time and absorbs impacts that would normally break steel strapping.

Containerization and Load Securing

Containerization originated in early coal mining regions in England and Germany in the late 1700s. By the 1830s, railroads were carrying containers that could be transferred to other modes of transport. Originally used for shipping coal on and off barges, “loose boxes” were used to containerize coal. The early 1900s saw the adoption of closed container boxes designed for movement between road and rail.  Containerization continued to evolve and toward the end of World War II, the United States Army used specialized containers to speed the loading and unloading of transport ships. The first vessels purpose-built to carry containers began operation in 1951 and in the U.S. ships began carrying containers between Seattle and Alaska.

Today, approximately 90% of non-bulk cargo worldwide moves by containers stacked on transport ships. There are many different materials available to stabilize and secure cargo in containers now used in all modes of transportation. Conventional load securing methods and materials such as steel banding have been around for decades. Due to technological advancement there are new load securing options available such as polyester strapping and lashing.  All types of tensioned strapping, particularly steel, need to be handled carefully because of potential injury.

Woven cord strapping outperforms steel banding and provides optimum protection against serious injury to employees and customers. Redback’s POWERWEB absorbs impacts and load shifting that would normally break steel banding, and it will not lash-back dangerously when cut.  For more information please visit our site at www.redback.com
